EXPLORE THE BEAUTY OF LONGWOOD GARDENS WITH THESE TIPS
Longwood Gardens is one of my favorite places in the world and I am so thankful that it is right here in Pennsylvania! Here are some tips to make your trip to the gardens a great one!
1. Get a ticket early in the day or later in the late afternoon

Longwood Gardens operates on a timed ticket system, with no reentry at this time, so planning your visit is key! We prefer early morning visits when there are fewer visitors. Alternatively, for those staying for the fountain shows, we recommend getting a timed ticket around 3:30 or 4 p.m. This allows time for a late lunch nearby and a delicious snack at Longwood Gardens while enjoying the evening fountain show.
2. Wear your walking shoes

There is so much to explore! We typically visit the gardens at least twice a year and still haven’t seen everything. Last weekend, we took our friends to Longwood Gardens and explored a treehouse we had never realized you could climb! With its beautiful meadows and numerous gardens, spanning 1,100 acres, there’s always something new to discover. You’ll surely get your steps in when visiting!
3. Make sure to sit back and smell the roses

I know I just mentioned there’s a lot of walking involved, but it’s also important to find a bench and soak in the garden environment. I love to sit, take a break, and watch people walking by. Listening to the birds and smelling the fragrant flowers—it’s really peaceful if you can find a quiet spot! Our favorite quiet spots are near the Italian Water Garden and in the Idea Garden. They’re perfect places to relax and enjoy a water, lemonade, or a glass of wine!
4. Have your phone charged

Every inch of the garden is a photo opportunity! If you’re planning to take photos with your phone, make sure it’s fully charged so you can capture the beauty of all the flowers, fountains, and yourself! My phone battery always drains so fast when I’m visiting!
5. Make sure to talk to their experts who are standing in the conservatory

Longwood Gardens has volunteers and experts stationed in certain spots in the conservatory and sometimes around the garden. We stopped to chat with one about the Century-plant, which is blooming this summer! It takes 10-25 years to flower, and it’s about to happen! It was fascinating to learn about this plant and be able to ask questions!
6. Doesn’t matter the season, Longwood will be brimming with beauty

Right now, the tulips and spring flowers are in peak bloom at Longwood Gardens and are expected to continue into next week. If you can’t make the trip in that short span of time, it truly is stunning to visit any time of the year. No matter the season, we’ve enjoyed it all! In spring, it’s the tulips. During summer, the fountain shows shine. Fall is beautiful with the dahlias, and the lights around Christmas time dazzling all over the gardens and grounds are not to be missed!
